My design approach is quite simple...I listen very carefully to my clients' needs, desires, and budget. I don't go in with a predetermined "vision" but let the design develop as the problem solving unfolds. When designing I keep my ego out of it…design awards, publications, or how well a project will photograph is not my goal nor is it a concern of mine. As a result, I have never submitted any project for an award, and although several of my projects have been published I was never the promoter.
I am often asked what my "style" is...I do not have any particular common theme in my projects. I adapt to each clients' needs, preferences, and surrounding conditions which lead to no two projects being alike.
Some mistakenly assume that I do primarily Japanese-influenced design because I have done quite a few. That is not the case; however, what one needs to understand is that these Japanese designs were a direct result of client preferences and not through my influence.
However, my knowledge and experience in Japanese design has enhanced my appreciation and desire for simplicity of spaces, details, and clean lines, as well as incorporating a strong connection of interior and exterior spaces where appropriate.
